love to support women who have that entrepreneurial spirit. Once a month
for 12 months (Jan-Dec 2013), I will be presenting a “Shout Out” on one woman who runs
her own business and who has inspired me in some way.
Becky Shelton, Dislocated Artist
Becky and I go way back….as far as elementary school. Yep, we grew up in Euless, TX in the same neighborhood and went all the way to high school together. Becky and I would play together at each others houses until the sun went down. Playing in the street was our favorite thing to do. But oh, I remember playing at the creek and in the woods too! What fun.
But what I remember and loved about Becky was how talented she was. She could draw the best pictures of anything. Can’t remember the specifics of her drawing, I just remember loving everything she did and it inspired me so…even back then when we were just little girls.
Now that we are older – I mean way older, she is still inspiring me with the work that she does. Becky was working for a company in Texas and loved it when her husband’s job transferred to Tennessee and he had to go. They packed up and move to the beautiful mountains of Tennessee. Becky got to transfer her job too. (Becky, sorry if I am not getting your story straight!!). After a while, Becky’s employer wasn’t doing well and so they had to lay people off. Becky had become “dislocated” and out of a job.
She continued to look for work but in the meantime she started up her God giving talent of drawing again. Becky takes various types of multi-media and makes something out of it. She totally loves to recycle and reuse! After several art festivals and drawing pets for friends (mine included) she decided to open up her very own studio in Tullahoma, TN…and wouldn’t you know it, she calls it Dislocated Artist. She teaches art classes to all ages. I only wish I lived close enough to take lessons from her!
Becky’s classes consist of not only drawing and painting, but working with clay and other multi-media pieces. Check out her Facebook page where she highlights her student’s art as well as her own. Dislocated Artist Facebook page – Go by and say hi and let her know I sent you. She’ll love it!!
Her latest project is Jack Daniels- Paint a Bra for a Cause!
ready for October Breast Cancer Awareness Month. JD has booked a
private party- Paint a Bra for a Cause! I will be having a Save the
Ta-Ta’s paint party Oct 8 and repeat on Oct 10th at my studio. Mark you
calendar and RSVP for your spot. Paint a Bra for a Cause!!!
There’s more like these on her FB page. Aren’t these the cutest drawings? I just love the cat and butterfly! Becky continues to surprise me every time I go to her page. She does amazing things, and I bet there’s a lot of inspiration going on in her art studio! If you live near Tullahoma, TN, go by and say hi! – better yet, take a class.
