I worked many years out in the work force from the time I was 17 until just before Brody came into our lives four years ago. I raised my first son as a single parent, going to college and working a full time job. That was the norm for me and I never uttered a bad word about it. I’ve been lucky enough to get to stay home with Brody, but have often thought about returning to the work force once he starts school. I’ve got one more year to decide if I am indeed going to work outside of the home or stay home and continue my blogging efforts. I’d like to introduce Mom Corps YOU to you. If you’re thinking about going back to work and don’t quite know what to expect or even what to do first, this new panel of experience women may be able to help you and give you some insight on the job market and how to write a resume.

I’ve been trying out Mom Corps YOU for a little over a week now and have found the informational sessions, industry insights, and tips from recruiters to
be very helpful. I always like watching Jean Chatzky on the Today Show
talk about finance, so I immediately went to the session where she was
talking about women and money. She really knows her stuff!!
I took some time today (2/11) to watch this important session on Resumes That Get Results: A 3-step Resume Workshop. It covered these areas:
- What hiring leaders look for in resumes
- How to format, write and structure a strong resume
- How to customize your resume for a specific position
- How to differentiate yourself in the resume review process
A couple of things I took away from this session are; YES, Cover Letters are a must! In all my years of sending out resumes, I don’t think I’ve ever had a cover letter to go with it. But that was so long ago, and now they pretty much are required now. Another thing is Networking is still one of the best ways to find a job. Start talking with friends and see what all is out there and available, then go after it. Because the next thing I took from this info is – 80% of jobs have gone to referrals. It’s still who you know. Network to get referred – know this and go find that job!!
