Rosemary is a woody perennial herb with needle-like leaves that gives off a wonderful fragrance. I love rubbing a stem through my fingers to smell it. This is one plant that is easy to grow in your garden. My Homemade Healthy Rosemary Salad Dressing is not something I came up with, but it is a recipe I found online that I perfected for myself, which of course, I think is a better one.
I actually tend to not eat salad dressing on my salad at all, especially if I’ve included veggies and fruits that are juicy. For example, if I cut up an avocado and add in strawberries, I will not use salad dressing because the avocado is so moist and the juice from the strawberry is enough for me. Try it sometime!. And, not to mention, you’ll save a few calories and you won’t be eating any added preservatives and such! On the other hand, when I do want salad dressing I make my own. That way, I know exactly what I’m eating.
There’s nothing better than making your own healthy salad dressing that tastes good!!
This is the rosemary bush in my garden. It’s in its second year and looking mighty healthy right now. A rosemary bush (in the warmer states) will sustain winter and you’ll have it year after year in your outside garden. I can only speak of the south though – I’m in north Texas where it doesn’t get below zero. It has before, but not much.
Homemade Healthy Rosemary Salad Dressing

- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves*
- 3-4 tablespoons fresh water
- ½ teaspoon sea salt or Himalayan pink salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground pepper
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
*Rosemary needles can be chopped or not. I did not chop mine.
Directions: Combine ingredients in jar with lid and shake to combine. Refrigerate. Makes enough for about 4 salads (depending on how much you use). Use up within 2 weeks.
Did you know the rosemary herb has unique attributes, such as it may help with memory loss and arthritis? I have both…so I’m eating a lot!!
Rosemary is rich in antioxidants, Vitamin A & C, iron, and many other nutrients. You should look it up when you have the time.
So, I’m betting if you make this healthy salad dressing and take my advice about not using salad dressing at all when you’ve added juicy fruits and vegetables, I think you’ll love it and won’t ever buy store bought salad dressing again!! Wanna bet?
Do you make your own salad dressing? I’d love to know what flavor!!
