I got fed up with my doctor not answering my health questions only wanting to send me to other doctors…so it’s true, I fired my doctor because she had no answers for me.
I fired my doctor because she had no answers.
Let me explain why I went to her in the first place. So, before I basically decided to fire my doctor, I had only seen her maybe four times. I knew on my 3rd visit I was going to have to find another doctor AGAIN. I originally went to the family medical clinic down the street from us as it was convenient and well, we (my husband and I) liked the PA there. I mainly went to him for colds and flu, as I had a gynecologist for the other stuff. But, on a particular visit at the medical clinic I knew there needed to be a change in doctors. I went there that day because I wasn’t feeling myself; I was depressed, felt fatigued all the time, body ached, and just felt like a truck had run over me. I got my blood drawn and the PA told me he would let me know the results in a few days. I got a call from his office to tell me I was being prescribed thyroid medicine, and ask what pharmacy I used. THAT’S IT! No explanation, no nothing.
So, what do I do? I turned to the internet to find some answers about thyroid disease. I mean, who wants to take medicine for something they know nothing about? I did question the nurse that called me that day about it a couple of times via email, but all she wrote was my T3 & T4 were off. What the hell is T3 & T4!!!
I found way more than I bargained for on the internet…and now I really had questions. I felt at this point I needed to find a doctor who would do it all for me – colds, flu, thyroid, gyno stuff, everything in one office – after all, by this time I’d gained over 20 lbs and I didn’t know why, and no one told me why either.
INSERT>>>>I had just had my annual visit with my gynecologist a couple of months (maybe 4) prior to going to the medical clinic – they told me NOTHING about possibly having thyroid issues, and I’m not even sure they tested me for it. UGH!
So I found a women doctor in the next town over and I scheduled my first appointment.
The first visit went okay. I actually thought I was going to like her. She listened to me and she even elaborated on a few of my health concerns. She didn’t however, like the idea of putting me on Armour thyroid medicine, but I insisted, so she did. She knew nothing about this particular type med for hypothyroidism because she only prescribes synthetic meds, and Armour is all natural.
After some time went by I wasn’t really feeling good and it was time for my annual check up. At this appointment, I knew something wasn’t right when she wanted to refer me to 5 different other types of doctors instead of giving me answers. Man, I would have accepted some type of answer when I told her my feet were hurting when I walked on them for quite some time. But instead, she said, “I know a good orthopedic doctor I can refer you to”. Then, instead of trying to give me an answer about my shoulders aching all the time, she said, “I know a physical therapist I’d like for you to see”, and it went on from there. I left there thinking that at least that PA would have given me some type of answer and would not have referred me out to some other doctor five times!!
All I want is answers and not to just put me on medication and tell me to come back in 6 weeks. That is not too much to ask!!!
Well, today I went to HerKare (look it up if you’re feeling like a truck ran over you and you’re not getting any answers) and I got an answer. Holy cow – I got an answer! HerKare is for women who have symptoms of fatigue, depression, low libido, weight gain, hot flashes, muscle loss and bone density loss. They care for estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid levels, and folate, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 deficiencies. I’m not saying I have found the almighty place to go for my hypothyroidism, but I do feel this is a good start. I go back in 10 days. YES>>it’s expensive, but they are specialist in the above type care. The women I saw coming in were about my age so I felt I was in the right place.
