As a owner of an old house, I’m constantly looking for ways to decorate my home with new and vintage decor. Here is our kitchen & Hallway update – Pottery Barn inspired.
Since the kitchen is the most popular place in our home, I wanted to give it a new look to make it appear bigger and brighter. So we went with all white. The walls in the hallway were painted a nice green color some time ago, but with the kitchen getting spruced up, we wanted to brighten up the hallway as well. With Pottery Barn being one of my favorite stores to shop at, I gave the hallway an updated look by adding a bench from the Samantha Entryway Collection.
Our Kitchen & Hallway Update – Pottery Barn Inspired!
Got rid of the yellow walls and went from yellow to white…all around. Oh, if only my walls could talk, they’d say, “What in the world were you thinking painting us yellow in the first place.”
We had a kitchen island right in the middle of the kitchen for a long time. It had two removable stools, one for each side, two draws, and a cabinet. It served its purpose for many years. However, I finally took it out, and I’m glad I did as the kitchen seems bigger and I don’t have to constantly walk around it to get to the other side. My husband still misses it as it was convenient to us. Part of it can be seen in the below photo on the right (yellow walls).
We used paint found at Home Depot called Whisper White. It’s a white paint, but not too bright. We had the walls painted, along with the ceiling and the hallway (more on the hallway below). What do you think? Doesn’t it look much better than the yellow? My next step is to figure out where to put the many appliances we have out on the counter. My thought is “out of sight, out of mind” – so I don’t want to put any of it up, as I’m afraid I might not every use it again…and I need to juice ever so often!!!
I mentioned above how I love Pottery Barn and the many ideas that’s shown in the catalogs I receive, so I decided to splurge on part of their Samantha Entryway Collection for our hallway. As you can see it’s cluttered and the walls are green. I’ll admit, however that color suited my eyes for many years and I was happy with it. But after a while, those colors really didn’t do much for the house.
Here’s the AFTER photo. Not that happy with how the picture turned out, but sure am happy with the outcome. It’s so warm and inviting – something that people say about my entire home.
In this Collection, I purchased Pottery Barn’s Cast Iron Row of 6 Hooks, Samantha Entryway Bench, Mahogany stain, Samantha Square Baskets, Honey finish, set of 3, Samantha Tufted Bench Cushion, Dark Denim. I wanted the off-white cushion, but with a 5-year-old, I thought I’d better not.
If you happen to have seen the full Samantha Entryway Collection either in the latest Pottery Barn catalog or online at potterybarn.com, you would have seen the two tall shelves, one on each side. I absolutely LOVE the entire look, but it would not fit in my hallway. Did you enjoy my Kitchen & Hallway update?
