Parents, are you looking for better ways to help manage your mornings that actually work? If so, try these 7 Back-to-School Organization Tips to Help Make Your Mornings Manageable.
Last year was my son’s first year in elementary as a Kindergartner, and being so excited for him to start, I had not prepared for our morning routine like I should have. But I soon figured out that when I started doing some of his school prepping the night before our mornings went a lot smoother.
The first thing I did was organize his school clothes in see-through plastic storage boxes that stacked on top of each other. I labeled each box Mon-Fri. This part seemed the most hectic for me since I have a very picky son. Seriously, who wants to spend their mornings running around trying to find clothes that your kids actually like and that match, along with everything else you have to do? Not me!! So I made this list of everything I do in hopes it will help some of you too.
7 Back-to-School Organization Tips to Help Make Your Mornings Manageable
- My most important tip I have for you is to START THE NIGHT BEFORE.
- My second most important tip I have for you is to make storage items see-through if you can.
- Organize your kids’ school clothes in stackable storage boxes and label them Monday through Friday.
- Put your kids’ shoes in a bin or basket close to the bedroom door. That’s usually the last thing that goes on.
- Mount a hook close to the bedroom door to hang backpack.
- Cut up fruit and veggies the night before and store them in a see-through container in the frig.
- For sports organization get a cool wire wall storage like the one in my idea board.
Again, doing some organizing the night before is key. So this year, I’ll be doing the same as last, but with one change. My son will be the one to get his clothes from the boxes each morning and dress himself…because…well, he can read now and it’s good for him to learn independence and responsibility….finger’s crossed!
Toward the end of the year, my husband mounted a hook by Brody’s bedroom door, and I thought to put a basket right under that hook for all his shoes. This helped Brody know exactly where his backpack is and where it goes when he gets home from school. Same with his shoes. I don’t know how many times we found one shoe here, one shoe there…and never when we need them.
When it comes to his lunch, I tend to always prepare some of it the night before, especially fruit and veggies. No one has time to cut up food in the mornings….do they??? I try to always use see-through containers here too so I know exactly what’s what. For sports, my son plays baseball – he has a bat, ball, helmet, cap, belt, pants, shirt with matching socks. I can’t image having more than one kid in sports!!! Organization is key for this mom!! So I purchased the Wire Wall Storage with 2 Hooks and 2 Baskets which you’ll see below (No. 5). I’m so excited to be getting this. I’d post it here, but it’s in route to me at the moment. This will hold all of Brody’s baseball equipment. YAY!!
