At the beginning of each month throughout 2015 I will highlight one woman with whom I’ve come in contact with that owns a business, and has touched my life in some way. Welcome to Women in Business. #WomenInBusiness
Meet Barbara Collins, Owner of Hattie Bags
Barbara is a child of God, wife of 30+ years and mother to six daughters and grandmother of 2 and many to come. She studied photography at The University of Texas, Austin and earned a BFA in Fine Arts. She never considered herself as an artist, but the need to create and work with her hands had always been a “must” in her life. Whether it be through photography, art, jewelry designing, writing, gardening, painting and re-purposing furniture Barbara is always looking for ways to create. She considered herself a creative soul. Turning her creative self into a business has been a struggle, in part, because she loves to do so many things. Her motto (quote)…“I see something somewhere, before Internet, and then online and say to myself, “I can make that”!
About Hattie Bags
Hattie Bags was birthed really by accident. Isn’t that how good ideas usually start? I had a vintage Jackie O pill box style hat turned upside down in my closet that collected the jewelry I would take off every day. It was stiff, bright blue, adorned with metallic threading, beading and jewels. It was a really pretty vintage Neiman Marcus find. One day I was picking it up to clean the shelf and grabbed it like a clutch and the idea popped in my head that it looks like a clutch purse…..hence the birth of Hattie Bags.
