10 Things to NEVER Say to Menopausal Women
Because I’m going through it as I write this and know how miserable it makes me feel at times. You won’t ever know what it’s like until you’ve been there…promise!! And, perhaps you may never have it as bad as some of us have. Here are 10 things Never to say to Menopausal Women:
- Is it really that bad?
- Why are you sweating…it’s not hot in here?
- Oh, I’ve had hot flashes before…no big deal.
- What’s wrong?
- What’s wrong now?
- All you have to do is exercise and that weight will come off.
- Why are you in such a bad mood?
- I went through menopause but don’t remember it being that bad.
- If you quit stressing, you won’t get hot flashes?
- I eat well and exercise daily so I will not have a problem with menopause. (Oh, really!)
I never thought I would gain as much weight as I have until I hit menopause. Honestly, I thought my bone structure wouldn’t allow me to gain much weight…but boy was I wrong. I gained 20 lbs in about 1-1/2 years. And now, I’m having a hard time getting it off.

Menopause is….
awful, but happens to us all in some form or another.
MANopause in men…I know – my husband has it !
real, talk to your friends about it…don’t be embarrassed or ashamed.
different for ever woman. My mom did not have hot flashes at all.
bothersome and a hot flash can last 3-5 minutes…maybe longer. Waiting it out is all you can do. Get a FAN!
One thing I want more than ever is to have a good night’s sleep!!
What about you….do you suffer from menopause or no someone who does? Let me know about it. Thanks. If you’ve got something to add to my list….tell me….I’ll add it!!

I've been in forced menopause since 2007. I am very grateful that I have never had a single hot flash.
This is one story I really really shouldn't comment on. No matter what I say I know I'm going to get ganged up on.
I'm not to that stage of my life yet, and I have to say, I'm not looking forward to it. When my mother describes menopause, I just cringe.
This is a helpful list. Especially since I am famous for putting my foot in my mouth. Thanks for helping me!
That's right Mitch as I know you work with a lot of women!!!
This is an awesome list, and in fact, I think it should be printed out and labeled for any other health issue too!! Why is it that no matter what someone is going through, someone pulls the "Oh, that totally happened to me too/Oh, have you tried exercising/etc". Even when I had a health issue that prevented me from being able to walk properly, my doctor said, "Have you tried exercise to treat the problem?" Um, I can't exercise because I CAN'T WALK!! *Facepalm*
And I'll add one more to the list, "Oh, (X) will totally go away if you try (Y miracle cure/snake oil)!" Hahaha!
Sorry, I was so busy ranting that I forgot to answer the question!! LOL!! Anyway, I have not gone through menopause yet, but I have a lot of relatives who are dealing with it. I bet they would find this funny!
You're funny Beeb!! I hope to make women laugh…hey, it's real so you might as well go with it and laugh about it every once in a while. I'll add you advice to the list! Thanks.
And it tends to be right around the middle for a lot of women. I read my hubby the riot act recently when he asked if I thought someone was pregnant. I told him NEVER ask no matter what age. My muffin top is way bigger than the person he was referring to and I shared how insensitive that was!!
I am looking forward to Aunt Flo stopping her monthly visits, but not all the other stuff that comes with menopause.
Men don't know anything!!! Yep, Aunt Flo has left the building!!! Thanks Diana for your comment – you made me laugh!!
I finally gave up and went to the doctor – so now I'm on an estrogen patch and oral progesterone and I feel good, no hot flashes. I know medical hormone replacement isn't good, but I was a walking zombie because I would wake 4 – 5 times a night because I was hot. It's such a crappy thing to go through .. 😛

Oh I just hope I don't get to that point. Thanks Monica for your input….and good luck…You're right – it's such a crappy thing us women have to endure.
