12 Wintertime Family Activities in North Texas
There may be snow, and there may not be snow. One thing is for sure; there are plenty of Texas Longhorns to see. You never know what the weather is going to be like on any given day, so if you’re heading to Texas, pack a coat just in case.
Oh, and, we don’t all wear cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. Nor do we all ride a horse!! But we do have fun.
Panther Island Ice
Panther Island is Fort Worth’s only outdoor skating rink. Opened every day at Coyote Drive-In, but hurry, the last day of operation is January 14th. Not an expensive activity at all. Enjoy winter wonderland at it’s finest (in Texas that is).
Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is one of the best wintertime family activities
A real Texas family experience. Everyone needs to see cowboys rope a steer! Going on Jan. 18 – Feb. 9th at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Then, after the Stock Show, head down to the Fort Worth Stockyards where the fun begins and ends!
If you’re a LEGO fan, then this is an event you’ll want to take the family to visit. First time in the U.S., this event will be held at the Ford Center in Frisco, TX on January 26 & 27, 2019. There’s been a few like this one, but not this large. You’ll see over 99,000 square feet of astonishing interactive exhibits. For all LEGO fans young and old. Check it out here.

Take a Hike
There are many nature trails, landscapes, and other areas to enjoy during winter in North Texas. Such as the well-hidden Trophy Club Park. I think the residents are glad this park is a well-kept secret. However, it is opened to the public. You may want to experience a hike at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. I love it there.
Lewisville Lake, as well as Ray Roberts Lake, offers great hiking trails too. River Legacy Parks Trail in Arlington has eight paved urban hiking trails you might want to check out.
Fort Worth Stockyards
A place to put on your bucket list for sure. This is my favorite place to go in Fort Worth. So much to do and see just in this area. Here’s a post I wrote when my son and I visited there. It’s an old post, but a trendy one on my blog – Fun Things to do at the Fort Worth Stockyards
