We had no idea we were getting ready to be parents. Not at my age, Lord. Four years ago today, Brody was brought to us in a mini van by two strangers no one would want to come to their home. They worked for an agency that takes children away from their parents that are in bad situations. No, it wasn’t the day he was born, but about 5 weeks after. Brody was born 10 weeks premature and spent the first 4 weeks in the NICU at a hospital about an hour away from us. He was born from a woman who soon would be out of the picture. Who knew what was going to happen in the months to come. Well, that’s another story.
My husband and I had gone to Jamaica that summer with some friends of ours. We were a couple that would have no children together exploring life and traveling to places we’ve never been…so we thought.
It was 2 days before Christmas in 2009 that we got a phone call that no parent would want. They told us our grandchildren were taken from their parents and that they needed a place to live. Our hearts fell. I’m ending that part of the story because I’ve yet to talk about it to strangers. I’m not sure I ever will.
When Brody arrived all of 4.5 lbs and only 5 1/2 weeks old, we didn’t know how long he was going to be with us. I just knew I needed to help out my son and keep Brody as long as needed. I was thrilled that this tiny little boy would soon fill up our home with love and happiness. My husband had never been a parent and I was out of practice. But to me, it all came back to me once Brody was in my arms.
We went from Nana and Papa to Mommie and Daddy with in 8 months. After my son passed away and the bio mom left the scene, Tracy and I instantly became Mommie and Daddy and that is what we are called today. AND…that is why I started Mommie…Again blog.
Please forgive me for not telling the whole story here. I’m just glad our little Brody is ours to keep and we will be his Mommie and Daddy forever. One day, I’m going to have to tell him the whole story. Hopefully, I’ll still be blogging and may share it with you all.
Our Brody at 4 yrs old.
