Since finding out about 4 months that I have hypothyroidism and now taking a prescription for it, and NOT seeing any results yet, I’ve decided to do some research of my own about how I can naturally make it better. Come to find out fluoride, being that its toxic is not doing my thyroid a bit of good, as a matter of fact, it could be one of the many culprits, so of course I am searching for alternatives.
There’s been some hype that the use of glycerin over time will leave a film on your teeth. I was going to include it in my homemade version but read where it’s not any good either. Be your own judge on that.
Dentists typically say that fluoride is beneficial when applied to the teeth of children. But again, you be the judge.
DIY Natural Toothpaste with Essential Oils
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup organic coconut oil
- 1/8 tsp. real unrefined salt or Pink Himalayan salt (highest quality available)*
- 3-5 drops Cinnamon EO
- 5-10 drops Peppermint EO
- 1/4 tsp (1 packet) 100% Natural Stevia or Truvia
Note: The above picture shows a double recipe.
Mix baking soda, coconut oil, Stevia and salt together until it becomes a paste. *You may want to add the salt a little at a time – as it WILL make the paste pretty salty – but what I’ve read salt is a great mineral for your teeth. If you don’t like the salty taste you can leave it out. Always drop essential oils last. Stir and taste. This is certainly a recipe you can tweak once you have made the above. Store in a glass jar with tight lid and use every day! Safe for kids.
