As a woman in her baby boomer years and a permanent caregiver for her grandson (hence Mommie…Again), I sometimes worry that I’m not taking the best care of myself. I try to do all things healthy in my life, i.e. eat the right foods, exercise, be cautious of what goes in my body as well as on my body. It’s important to me that I know all about women’s health so I can keep my healthy mind and healthy habits flowing in the right direction.
When we got Brody a little over 4 years ago my health was in tip-top shape ~~ true, it was. BUT, that was then, and now I’ve hit a milestone in my life called Menopause! Brody’s needs will always come before mine, but I MUST take care of myself so I can take care of him. I’ll be 66 yrs old when he graduates from high school. Wow, that seems really old. Thankfully though, I started on some very good healthy habits about 6 months prior to him coming to live with us. Although I’ve been told many many times that I’m doing a great job caring for Brody, but what people don’t know is that my health is falling. I don’t dwell over it, I just work at it every day. Yoga is an excellent way to nurture the body, relieve stress and just make you feel good all over. I also plan to use Walgreens as my go-to place for all my health needs.
Did you know Walgreens offers convenient and affordable women’s health resources? Did you know that Walgreens can help with the necessities you need to achieve a healthy lifestyle? Yes, they can! It’s a fact that we as moms put ourselves behind our children’s needs and often times forget about our own. Are you one of them? We get busy doing for others that we forget about our own needs. As I said above, it’s imperative that we take care of ourselves so we can take care of our family. Our family depends on us for meals on the table, nightly baths and comforting bedtime stories, clothes to wear, taxi driver, playtime, etc, so we need to be able to lean on someone and/or someplace for our health and well being. So, let’s all take a deep breath and make a list of what our needs are and work off that list until the last need is scratched out. Sound good?
5 Things on my “Need” list:
- Exercise more – get back into a yoga routine.
Go Gluten-Free to see if that will help me feel better.
- Find a natural alternative way to control my hypothyroidism (something else I was just diagnosed with)
- Walk around the block or two every night without little one (he slows me down!)
- To find time for me. An all girl’s trip is in order!
I’m a true believer that eating healthy (no junk food), exercising, drinking lots of water, and taking a daily vitamin is essential for a women’s well being. I also believe it’s important that we take time for ourselves to do the things we love to do, may it be meditation, reading a book and just simply to sit. Speaking of eating healthy, I recently started juicing and what a difference it has made in my energy level. I love the nutrients that juicing provides. It a great healthy habit!!
I find plenty of what I need at my neighborhood Walgreens in Trophy Club, TX. They are very helpful, full of knowledge, and the Pharmacists are there to help with every need I may have….and that’s reassuring to me. Here’s something you may not know about Walgreens. They have a Register Rewards program that awards you with points on your purchases. Those points add up to dollars. The first time I used mine I was able to take $5 off my purchase. That’s extra money in my pocket!
Here’s to Healthy Minds * Healthy Habits * #HerHealth
Brody is my main reason I strive to stick to living a healthy life, and of course I couldn’t function without my drink of choice (water) and bites of chocolate with almonds…hey we all need something sweet every now and then, right!
Be good to yourself and be sure to stock up on some items that mean “healthy” to you…and why not let Walgreens – your neighborhood store AT THE CORNER OF HAPPY & HEALTHY be your go-to store for all your needs!
Follow along with me and #CollectiveBias for ways to support one another. Have a great summer!
I’d love to hear what healthy means to you and what items you would grab at your Walgreens store.
