Most everyone eats eggs, unless your vegan, right? Lately, there’s been all kinds of eggs in stores for us to choose from. Cage-free, Free-range, Humane, Organic…please!! Stumped like me on which ones are the best? To celebrate World Egg Day I thought I would help get the word out on which eggs are the healthiest to eat. Then you choose which dozen to buy for your family.

Cage-free – These hens are uncaged inside barns, but may not have outdoor access and are kept in close quarters. There are no regulations on food or conditions.
Free-range – Don’t get confused here. This only means that hens have access to the outdoors, but there are no requirements for the space provided and how much time they spend outside OR what they are fed.
Certified Humane – This label indicates that the farm has undergone a third-party inspection to ensure that the animals have clean food and water, are uncaged, and can move around freely. These hens are also kept on a diet free of hormones and antibiotics (unless they are sick). The feed is not necessarily organic.
USDA Organic – These hens are fed an organic, vegetarian diet free of antibiotics and pesticides. They are not caged and have access to the outdoors, but there’s no requirement for much time is spend outside, nor the quality of the outdoor environment.
