Vermejo Park Ranch, Raton, NM – Days 3-7.
This is where my husband works during their Elk hunting season. Because he works for a wild game family company in Texas, this is one of his responsibilities. He takes care of the hunters’ wild game processing orders. It’s complicated, but it works.
Vermejo Park Ranch is a private hunting ranch owned by the famous Ted Turner and ran by his employees. It’s location is northern New Mexico right outside of Raton, NM. Another breathtaking area. I love to go up there in the wintertime just to see nature. Well, it’s also breathtaking in the summer months too (like now).
I can’t believe I captured this picture this way. I didn’t mean to, but just look how it turned out. Pretty, uh? This is just one of the lakes at Vermejo.
We gathered up a lot of pine cones to bring them home so we could make crafts with them. They were literally everywhere up here. We have none where I live. I’ll be doing a blog post on all things to do with pine cones!!
Believe it or not….we still don’t, but we saw a bear in the summer!!!. It was a hot day too, but here comes a bear out of the woods. He was more scared by our car than we were of him. We actually saw him twice – coming and going…so I guess he wasn’t too scared.
This is the place where we stayed for three nights. It’s the Turner House. It’s mostly used for either guests or hunting guides. It sure was spiffy inside.
So, I haven’t mentioned that instead of us having to stay in Tracy’s trailer the whole time, the manager let us stay in one of the houses and treated us just like guests. It was amazing. And below, was our first night’s dinner. The whole three days was very special. This year will be Tracy’s 11th year to work along side of Vermejo’s hunting crew, so I guess they thought he and his family deserved to be pampered this time. Tracy is a real asset to Vermejo Park Ranch in the months of Sept, Oct, and first part of Nov.
Brody learned to shoot a gun. Yep, Tracy drove while Keith showed him how to shoot.
We had a wonderful time at the Ranch, and when it was time to head home we stopped by the famous Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo. We’d never been there in the summer months, so we got to see the back part of the place as it’s only opened in the summertime and not the times that Tracy is working in NM. From here, we leave about 5 hours. We stopped for lunch then headed home to our doggies. I love vacation!!!!!
