5 Simple Steps to Overcome Sadness and Depression
Depression and sadness can be somewhat debilitating. You don’t want to move. You don’t want to do any much-loved activities, and quite frankly, you just feel horrible. There’s usually a reason we feel sad and depressed. This can be rejection, something not going as we planned, or an adverse event in our life. Whatever the reasons for you feeling sad and depressed, there are five simple steps you can carry out to overcome sadness and depression. These five steps that I’m featuring today will help you overcome sadness and depression so that you can attempt to move on in life without these feelings consuming you.
Listen to Upbeat Music
Music therapy can help people get through difficult times. This involves putting some music on while you lay or sit there, thinking about nothing except that upbeat music that’s flowing through your home. Enjoy the upbeat tone, words, and rhythm as you work to overcome your sadness and depression. I like listening to music when cleaning my house.
Practice Mindfulness to overcome sadness and depression
When you’re depressed or sad, the thoughts that consume your mind tend to go towards worries and what’s wrong, versus anything that may be going right in your life. Focus on the present moment, take in each sight, and sound so that you’re able to live in this moment. When you practice this mindfulness strategy, you’ll soon start to feel better.
Increase Omega-3 Fatty Acids to help sadness and depression
Switching up your diet to include foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids will do you right. Foods include salmon, wild tuna, wild sardines, and a great source is Wild Planets Foods. Also, nuts, chia seeds, and flaxseed are good too. Eating a diet high in Omega-3 fatty acids will naturally curb depression and sadness. Sneaking flaxseed into your favorite meals is an easy way to do this if you don’t want to make too many changes. However, taking a supplement loaded in omega-3 such as Nordic Naturals is highly recommended (by me) if your sadness and depression has gotten out of hand.
Disclosure: I am an ambassador for both WP Foods and Nordic Naturals, but in no way am I getting paid to recommend them. I take my omega-3 supplements religiously and have felt so much better.
Step Negative Self Talk
Strategically place notes around your home in areas that you will notice them. Each note should have a positive affirmation written on it. To entirely stop negative self-talk, you’ll have to use this step to overcome sadness and depression with minimal effort. Places like your bathroom mirror, bedroom wall beside your bed and in the kitchen where you get coffee are good locations.
Connect with Friends
Even though you may not feel like engaging with your friends, now is the best time to do so. Connecting with positive friends will inspire you to start practicing each of these steps to overcome sadness and depression. You’ll know best which group of friends will help uplift you and not drag you further into depression, choose those friends to connect with now.
Getting together with these girls always brightens my day!
