If you’ve searched for a DIY natural deodorant that lasts all day but haven’t found one, keep reading. I’m sharing my favorite homemade deodorant recipe with you today, and it does last all day long.
This post has links to my doTerra’s Independent Wellness Advocate site, which has a lot of information about essential oils. If you were to make a purchase, I would earn a commission.
DIY Natural Deodorant
This DIY natural deodorant is very easy to make and only takes a few minutes. The deodorants in the store often contain complicated ingredients that I can often not even pronounce. I’m not even sure what most of them are let alone what they do.
This DIY deodorant paste has just a few simple ingredients that will help keep your skin soft while keeping odor away even on the busiest day. While I use doTerra Sandalwood in my deodorant, if you prefer a different scent, that’s OK too. You can easily switch it out for lavender or even geranium if you enjoy those scents more.
Sandalwood is an aromatic wood used in many perfumes and fragrance products. That’s one of the reasons I chose it for my DIY natural deodorant.
What is the best natural deodorant?
While you can buy several brands of natural deodorant online or in stores, they are costly. Since it’s so easy to make your deodorant, I cannot justify the cost of buying one. The best natural deodorant is one that works well that you can make at home inexpensively.
DIY Natural Deodorant ingredients
- 1/3 cup organic coconut oil such as Dr. Bronner’s
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup arrowroot or organic cornstarch
- Two drops doTerra Melaleuca (Tea Tree) essential oil (for its antibacterial properties)
- Two drops doTerra Sandalwood essential oil
This recipe will last you over a month or more. You can always make 1/2 the recipe to keep it fresher.
**Also, your underarms are very sensitive, so please do not put more than said drops of essentials oils in the mixture. You may even want to put a drop at first.
Do not use on children.
How do you make your own deodorant?
First, gather your supplies together before starting.
Supplies: measuring cups, spoon, glass bowl, small glass jar with a secure lid (make sure to use a glass jar and not plastic of any kind. Plastic seeps up essential oils)
- Mix baking soda and arrowroot in the glass bowl.
- Mash in coconut oil and blend well.
- Add essential oils one drop at a time.
- Place the mixture in a glass jar and close lid.
- To use, put a small amount between your fingers and rub it under your arms.
- For extra protection (optional), use my DIY All Natural Body Powder as the last step.
DIY natural deodorant and coconut oil
While you can use other oils as a base for this DIY natural deodorant, coconut oil is my favorite. One of the benefits of using coconut oil is that it is so good for your skin. The skin under your arms is often very sensitive. Some people have found that their underarms get irritated by the ingredients used in store-bought deodorant. This homemade deodorant is very gentle on your skin.
Coconut oil has many benefits when it comes to skincare. It’s very soothing and is an excellent moisturizer, so it returns moisture to your skin. But, it’s also a natural antibiotic and has antifungal properties. That means that it helps fight bacteria that can cause odor. And, it also has a delightful smell that’s natural, unlike the coconut-scented products you find in the store.
Sweating is your body’s way of removing toxins from your body. So, while wetness can be annoying at times, it’s a good thing. This DIY natural deodorant will help control odor. But, it is not an antiperspirant and won’t inhibit your body’s need to eliminate toxins through sweating.
