Vintage home and outdoor decor have that look only a few of us adore. Do you? I love repurposing old things into something other than what they were used for many years ago. I just loved the way this DIY Vintage Feeder Turned Flower Planter turned out.
DIY Vintage Feeder Turned Flower Planter
I love vintage decor!!! The older, the better is my motto!! This old feeder is my latest find. The minute I laid eyes on it I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. The price was right at $15 and that included tax, so I did not hesitate one bit.
A couple of weeks ago a good friend and I went to an open vintage market in Denton, TX where everything there had something nostalgic about it. Inside an old barn and out on the lawn, vendors were selling their wares from furniture to boutique clothing to handmade vintage decor and so much more. We both love this type of shopping and have been shopping together like this for at least four years now.
This market was the best so far. We can’t wait to go back end of May. I think we each spent about hundred bucks. I even bought a few pretty tops to wear for spring. But my pride and joy is this vintage feeder I purchased for only $15.
I planned to make a flower planter out of it, so I picked up a few things to do just that.

So here’s how I did it.
Good, healthy potting soil is a must for flowers to thrive. Just putting soil in the planter wouldn’t be good enough because the water would slip right through leaving the plants to dry up fast.
So I stuck the netting down in the planter first, so I could see where I needed to cut it off. I only had to cut off maybe a fourth of it. My first thought was to put the part I cut off down in the planter too but ended up not doing that. I think now after I watered it a couple of times that maybe I should have used it. You don’t want too much water dripping down. Some are okay and very much needed, but if it’s too much, that means all the water dripped out, and none stayed in the soil. Good thing to remember when planting flowers and herbs.
Then I added a little bit of soil to cover the bottom.
Do you like my DIY Vintage Feeder Turned Flower Planter so far?
Took the first plant and broke some of the soil off to loosen it up and then put it down on the left side of the planter. I also keep the bottom part of the soil for later use.
I bought five plants to use but ended up only needing 4. After I got all plants in the planter, I added more soil to the plants. Soil that I bought mixed with the bottom halves of the plants.
I added soil all the way up to the top of the planter and in between each plant. I like to think I know what I’m doing and that I have a green thumb. My mom does quite well with planting and growing plants. She has taught me everything I know about planting. I also have gloves right next to me, but for some reason, I love using my flesh. Dirty hands and the dirt and soil in my fingernails is OK by me.
So this is my little garden bench which is right next to the garden. Here’s to spring and planting flowers and turning cool vintage finds into something beautiful.
