What’s your plans for the summer? It’s going to be a hot one I hear! We spend a lot of time at Cedar Creek Lake near Mabank, Texas. Our little ones are having a great time out on the boat and in the water.
We’ve been lucky enough to have had a house on the lake to go to every single weekend of my growing up years. My parents bought this house back in 1972 and built a home out of it. We are also lucky enough that we still have this home in our family. Although, I tell my parents it’s probably time that they downsize since my dad is 84 years old and not getting around too good, but dad won’t have it. He said he will die there. So, here we are…on our 3rd generation of kids learning the ropes of boating, water skiing, inner tubing and what ever else we come up with.
This is the house view from the boat. The house is in the back and my dad’s man cave is over to the right behind the dock. Not sure what he would do without that hole in the wall that he goes down to all during the day. My dad called me the other day and told me he wanted a John Deer tractor. Why on earth would he want that when he can barely walk down to his shop…I do not know…but he’s always wanting one. I suppose he wants a John Deer tractor before he dies. I guess that’s okay.
Boating is fun. We’ve always had a boat in the stall, whether it be a deck boat, ski boat, fishing boat or someone else’s boat – there’s always been one there. This year my sister bought my parent’s neighbor’s boat. It’s pretty cool, one of my favorite type boats. It’s old and needs a little cleaning, but darn thing works and our kids are happy happy!
These kids did not hesitate one bit getting out there on that raft. At first, Brody said he was not riding in that boat…”not ever”, he said. Now look at him go!
What a favorite past time we share at the lakehouse. We’ve had many memories at this place. Now my parents are retired and life is good. I only wish my son Johnny was alive to still go there. But that’s another story and I promise to tell it one day on my blog.
Brody and his cousins, Taryn and Mazie had so much fun, I hated to go home. But there will be more weekends like this. I’ve got to get my grand kids for the weekend so they can enjoy all this. Awwww so much to do!!
Kayaking is fun too. I can’t believe Brody got out there with out me. Life jacket on – check!
Here’s what the kids do when they are not in the water. Some how sand gathers right there at the beginning of the dock. Mom says it just washes down from the yard and there is stays. Mazie and Brody didn’t mind…they actually loved it!!
The water is down a bit and has been for a couple of years now. We just haven’t got a lot of rain. It’s so sad b/c this lake was overflowing with water at times, but lately, we are lucky if we can get the boat in the water. Hoping for more rain, there, here and everywhere!!
Here’s a picture that Taryn drew of her time on the lake.
We’ll be spending Father’s Day at the lake – my dad will be super happy. I do hope my grand kids can go.
Do you have any plans this summer at the lake or beach or perhaps the mountains with your family? I wanna know!!
