What do you do between Christmas and New Years when your kids are still out of school and really rambunctious? You have a holiday family staycation at Gaylord Texan that’s what!!
Holiday Family Staycation at Gaylord Texan
By the time you read this, the holidays will have passed. But, this is the perfect time for you to plan for next year. I think you’ll love our family time we were able to have at the Gaylord. My husband wasn’t able to go with us, so I invited my mom to come along. I have to thank Gaylord Texan for offering me a reduced rate to stay at their lovely hotel. As a blogger, we were given a special media rate to stay anytime before the end of the year. No other compensation was giving and all the fun here is “our” own!! Let the fun begin.
There’s so much to do during the holidays at the Gaylord Texan. The problem is choosing which activities you want to do. We splurged a tad bit and did lots of different activities. For some, a staycation at the Gaylord Texan is a once in a lifetime dream, for others, it’s a place to take the family every year. Mom and I noticed a lot of grandparents with their grandkids. For us, well, we shall see.
Holiday Family Staycation at Gaylord Texan
We had our activity book in hand and were prepared to have fun…no matter the cost. I wanted to make this special not only for Brody but for my mom as well. She doesn’t do these sort of things on her own and she’s not getting any younger. My friends notice that I do a lot with my mom and they are right. I love spending time with her.
Early in November we were invited to Gaylord Texan’s Lone Star Christmas Family Media Event where we had a wonderful lunch, strolled through ICE and flew down the Snow Tubes, so we didn’t do those activities again. But just look at what all we did. Brody was busy the entire time.
Build-A-Bear Workshop at Lonestar ICE Grapevine
My son, Brody was given a Build-A-Bear (BAB) gift card for Christmas from his aunt and I was hoping that we could use it at the BAB Workshop area inside where ICE and the snow tubing were. Yes, we could. Brody is all into Pikachu and that’s what he built that day. I do hope you like Pikachu because you’ll see him in almost every photo I took of Brody. So glad that was our first piece of fun we did because Brody had a buddy to love on.
Face Painting at Lonestar ICE Gaylord Texan
As we were walking in the corridor where ICE was we came upon a lady doing face painting. This was actually free. Of course, we all tipped her pretty well. Brody wanted a candy cane mustache. You can see Pikachu’s head poking out.
Gingerbread Decorating Corner at Gaylord Texan
Our holiday family staycation at Gaylord Texan just got better. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m the one who wanted to decorate gingerbread people. All the years we’ve been going to ICE I’ve always wanted to do this…so we did. It was sticky, sweet and delightfully fun. Then we got to get our photo taken with the gingerbread man. My life is complete now…and oh look, there’s Pikachu!
Build-A-Bear Workshop Scavenger Hunt at Gaylord Lonestar Christmas
So, on our 2nd day, I kept seeing kids of all ages holding a booklet in their hands and looking around. We got out our handy-dandy events and activity guide and found out there was a scavenger hunt we could do…so we did. This was one of our favorite activities for sure. We all three pitched in to find the bears. They were in plain sight all over the hotel. It was fun and I highly recommend putting this activity on your list of things to do for next year.
Brody also did the Santa Snow Throw. This activity went by so fast that I didn’t get any photos. He liked throwing snowballs at the moving targets as did a lot of other people. It was busy there.
Cookies with Mrs. Claus
Not only did we get to sing classic holiday songs with Mrs. Claus and her elf, mom and I, and of course Brody got to enjoy cookies and milk. Brody got a book, we got to see him sing and dance up front all a while enjoying those comfortable bean bags chairs. You should have seen mom and I trying to get up from sitting. Hilarious to say the least.
We didn’t get to do every activity there, like ice skating. Mom said she didn’t want to embarrass us by falling more than she would have skated, plus I don’t think Brody was up for the challenge. This momma ran out of money, so we ended our 2-day staycation with Cookies with Mrs. Claus….and this cute video of Brody and friends dancing and singing.
Memories were certainly made at our holiday family staycation at Gaylord Texan. When you get the chance to start planning yours for next year – you’ll truly be glad you did. See it all at ChristmasAtGaylordTexan.com.
