What a funky winter we had this year. I don’t know about you, but I’m glad spring is here and warm weather is on the horizon. It’s time to get outside for some fun and relaxation. Here are ways how to move family time outside.
I’m so over being cooped up in the house, aren’t you? Not that we had a terrible winter, but I’m not the one who likes short days. Now that daylight savings time is here and spring has arrived, my family is heading outside! Is yours or is it hard to get them to go out?
Okay, I get it, we’ve all been cooped up inside for a long time now. It took us a few tries to get our son, Brody off the iPad and Xbox to go outside. He was reluctant at first, BUT….since he loves to play games with his daddy they have made their way outside – YaY!
How to Move Family Time Outside
First, do any backyard games remind you of your childhood? It does me, and that game is badminton. When I was a little girl, I remember going over to my Aunt Bobbie’s house in Fort Worth, TX for our annual spring/Easter family get together. We always looked forward to two things. One…and the most important, was my aunt’s homemade peach cobbler made from scratch. Man, that was the best dessert ever! The other…while the adults were relaxing in lawn chairs in the backyard, my siblings, cousins, and I was playing badminton. My aunt and uncle always had that net set up for us because they knew it would keep us outside for hours. We had the best time hitting that birdie back and forth to one another.
Wow, those were certainly the good old days.
So, what do I get to facilitate this post? You guessed it – a badminton set. This set is actually a volleyball/badminton combo set and includes everything you need to move the family outside for some fun! Glad we started Brody early playing this game. He had no idea how to hit that birdie. It was so funny watching him at first. My husband taught him a few moves and now Brody has the game down pat.
So, here’s how to move family time outside and that has helped us.
- Buy a game that is truly fun to play, and that can only be played outside, such as this volleyball/badminton combo set from Wayfair
- Tell your kids they can not have any electronics until they spend at least one hour outside doing whatever they want. It works for us.
- Parents go outside and relax, then after a while, your kids will be wondering where you are, and then head outside to find you. That works for us too!
- Serve ice cream in the backyard.
- Get all the games out from last year.
- AND…if that doesn’t work, check out Wayfair’s outdoor yard games to see which ones you and your family would like to have
Though my cousins and I are miles apart, I’ll always have those fond memories of us playing games outside at our aunt’s house, but now the three of us can get outside to enjoy a game or two of badminton in our own backyard. I’ve tried many times to make my aunt’s homemade peach cobbler, but it never tastes as good as hers. She must have had a secret ingredient that wasn’t mentioned on the recipe card that was given to me after she passed.
It’s spring – get outside!!
