I was fed up with my doctor not answering my health questions and only wanting to send me to other doctors…so it’s true, I fired my doctor because she had no answers for me.
I fired my doctor because she had no answers
Let me explain why I went to her in the first place.
I initially went to the family medical clinic down the street from where I live as it’s convenient. My reasons for going there were for colds and flu. But, on a particular visit to the medical clinic, I knew there needed to be a change in doctors. My appointment that day was because I wasn’t feeling myself; I was depressed, felt fatigued all the time, body ached, and just felt like a truck had run over me. Blood was drawn, and the PA told me he would let me know the results in a few days. A phone call from his office came about two days later to tell me I was being prescribed thyroid medicine and ask what pharmacy I used. THAT’S IT! No explanation, no nothing.
So, I turned to the internet to find some answers about thyroid disease. Who wants to take medicine for something they know nothing about? I did question the nurse that called me that day about it a couple of times via email, but all she wrote was my T3 & T4 were off. What the hell is T3 & T4!
I found way more than I bargained for on the internet and now I had questions. I felt at this point I needed to see a doctor who would do it all for me – colds, flu, thyroid, gyno stuff, everything in one office – after all, by this time I’d gained over 20 lbs and I didn’t know why, and no one told me why either.
So I found a women doctor, and I scheduled my first appointment.
Before I decided to fire her, I had only seen her maybe four times. I knew on my 3rd visit I was going to have to find another doctor AGAIN.
The first visit went okay. I thought I was going to like her. She listened to me, and she even elaborated on a few of my health concerns. She didn’t however, like the idea of putting me on natural thyroid medicine, but I insisted, so she did. She knew nothing about this particular type med for hypothyroidism because she only prescribes synthetic meds.
After some time went by I wasn’t feeling good and it was time for my annual checkup. At this appointment, I knew something wasn’t right when she wanted to refer me to 5 different other types of doctors instead of giving me answers.
Man, I would have accepted some kind of answer when I told her my feet were hurting when I walked on them for quite some time. But instead, she said, “I know a good orthopedic doctor I can refer you to.” Then, instead of trying to give me an answer about my shoulders aching all the time, she said, “I know a physical therapist I’d like for you to see,” and it went on from there. I left there thinking that at least that PA would have given me some answer if I would have asked him and would not have referred me out to some five other doctors.
All I wanted was answers. That is not too much to ask!
Don’t be afraid to fire your doctor because she had no answers for you!!
