If you’re feeling down and not your usual self, this story on toxic health is a must-read for you. Meet Jennifer Bartels – this is her story – “Jennifer’s Story on Toxic Health and How She Overcame It.”
Jennifer’s Story on Toxic Health and How She Overcame It
I’d like to share my story in hopes that I can help anyone else who may be suffering like I was.
Let me start by telling you a little about my lifestyle for the past 30+ years.
I had chronic ear infections as a child, so I lived on antibiotics. There weren’t many times that I can remember not having a bottle of that pink bubblegum flavored stuff in the door of our refrigerator with my name on it. Not having any idea that pink stuff was killing bad bacteria AND all of the good bacteria too. This caused me to have a compromised immune system and chronic illnesses as an adult (More antibiotics, prescription meds, and steroids)
My family ate a standard American diet (who didn’t back in the 80’s and 90’s) which was loaded with processed foods, white flour, dairy and lots of sugar.
We swam in our heavily chlorinated swimming pool every summer, and I can even remember swimming just hours after my mom would put the “shock treatment” in which was just straight chemical.
We drank tap water which was loaded with chlorine, fluoride, lead and many other harmful contaminants (clean water is vital to good health as our bodies are on average 60% water)
I had a mouth full of amalgam fillings for years which are the silver colored ones. I’m sure you have had them or at least seen them. Those babies are 50% mercury and leach toxic metal into your body and brain.
My first year out of high school I spent drinking and partying and getting very little sleep. I was also eating a lot of fast foods which are ultra-processed with artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, stabilizers, and other additives that mask their undesirable qualities.
I used store bought antiperspirants every day which are filled with aluminum and other toxic substances that completely shut down detox pathways in the armpits.
So needless to say, I hadn’t done too many things to properly care for my body other than I did exercise regularly.
The Struggle is Real
About a year ago, one morning standing in my kitchen making my first of many cups of coffee which was my daily routine due to extreme fatigue (Mornings were always the worst). It dawned on me – I never felt good. In fact, I almost always felt awful. And I can’t quite explain how, but I just knew… I was dying.
I’d have to go lay down at least once a day and pull the covers over my head and get away from everything due to sensory overload. I’d get to where I just couldn’t process anymore and needed to recharge even though I would sleep 10 hours a night!
My body was shutting down. My tolerance for toxicity was spilling over, and I was paying the price. I was sick.
It didn’t get better no matter what fad diet I was on or what newest multi-level marketing product I tried. I knew it was time to act and my life depended on it.
How She Overcame It
So, here I am a year later and I’ve worked diligently to regain my health.
First by having a safe removal of my mercury fillings, (there were 7 of them). Then changing my food choices, eliminating chemicals from my environment, detoxing my body, juicing, and chiropractic care. Last but not least, taking quality supplements and drinking clean/pure water.
It’s been an ugly but beautiful journey with a lot of trial and error, but I’m grateful for the process. I give all the credit to God. Asking Him for help, He showed me step by step what was wrong and how to handle it.
I still have my days of being down or not feeling super great, but I genuinely feel that I am finally on the living side of the spectrum again and I’m hopeful that It’ll just continue to get better and better. I believe that we never get to the “I’ve arrived” point when it comes to our health because it’s something that we have to work at daily.
“If you think the pursuit of good health is expensive and time-consuming, try illness.”
Thank you, Jennifer, for allowing me to share your story on my blog. I know it will indeed help many women who may be struggling with the same toxic feelings as you had.
